Some of the Things We Do

ICEplug?

At Northview, you are more than welcome- you are invited to explore a faith that deepens with each new day; that is challenged and enriched by real life; that finds expression in service to our neighbours, both across the street and across the world. We've been called together by God "to be a missionally active church of growing worshipers who bring hope and fellowship to the spiritually disconnected in Regina and beyond."

Challenged by the description of the early church found in Acts 2.42-47, the people of Northview endeavour to live this out in our own context, recognizing that pursuing this together will require ministry to take on many shapes, forms and approaches in order to be the church to one another and to the world.

In an effort to summarize what we're all about, Northview has adopted a relatively simple acronym: ICE. Being that all three key components involve developing meaningful relational connections, an everyday symbol helps the explanation along: a three-prong plug.

The ICEplug works like this:

E- Encountering God and growing in faith. This is our grounding.
C- Connecting with people seeking God.
I- Influencing our surroundings.

People who have encountered God in a life-changing way tend to have an impact upon their world. Northview is about fostering an environment of grace, freedom and hope, that those who attend would deepen in their own relationship with God through Jesus Christ and would, as a result of this deepening, be a shining light of love and justice for the communities and relationships in which they find themselves daily.

Northview has six core values that drive the ministries of the church. In any ministry undertaking, at least one of them is being expressed. These values are drawn from Acts 2.42-47 and serve to forge the church's identity in the community. They are listed here in the order they appear in Acts 2.42-47:

“People make history live. Without them there is no history nor is there a future.” (Rev. Floyd Stryker, 1980)

When Floyd penned these words thirty years ago, the Free Methodist Church in Regina was celebrating its 60th anniversary. Now here we are, entering the final decade of our first century together. So much has changed over this time, yet one thing that remains the same is this church’s warm, missional heart.

In order to more meaningfully serve her community and world, the Regina Free Methodist church has embraced numerous changes: location and name (the church moved to its current location in Argyle Park and changed its name to Northview Community Church in 1990), pastoral leadership, outreach ministries, community involvements and styles of service. Many great leaders in the Free Methodist Church in Canada have been raised and released here, including numerous passionate laypeople, pastors. missionaries and even one Bishop.

In the Winter of 2011, Northview completed its first LifePlan launch, having gathered insight and data in dialogue with both the community within the church (Northview's people) and the community without the church (North Regina, in particular, Argyle Park and Walsh Acres). Three themes for ministry emerged:

1) Community Connection
2) Serving the Disadvantaged
3) Strengthening our Core

All ministries undertaken by Northview align with at least one of these themes, at least one of our six core values and act as a means towards the realization of Northview's mission. The same things that were central to this church's historical identity are central to her identity today: Northview has always been about exploring and expressing faith and love together... and keeping it real.

LifeGroups

Northview Community Church is all about doing life together in community: learning, growing, experiencing and serving. Because we believe that life change happens most meaningfully in relationship, Northview offers a variety of LifeGroups that pursue this in different ways.

Discovery Land

Discovery Land, a chance for our youngest members of Northview to deepen their faith, serves infants and children through to grade 6. This is a place where children are welcomed, valued and cared for while they learn, at their own level, who Jesus is and how to follow him daily.

Age 0-5 classes: Preschool age children are dropped off prior to the morning service. These classes take place during the service and are located at Northview's 'West Wing'. The nursery is open to parents at all times. There is also a toddler (walking to 3 years) and preschool (ages 3 & 4 years) class available. Preschool Ministry Director: Carla Needham (924-4163)

Kindergarten children to grade 6: School-aged children begin the morning participating in Northview's larger worship gathering before heading downstairs to age-apropriate encounters with scripture led by gifted leaders and teachers. Their time together is known as T.A.G. (Together and Growing). This time includes worship time, crafts, relationship building, Bible buddies (a mentorship program) and learning to be servants of God. Switchback Uth

According to its posters, Switchback Uth extols a Lips and Heart Kinda Life and 'exists to expose students to the reckless love of Christ, to propel them into deep, life-changing connection with Him, to develop healthy and honouring relationships, and to encourage a life of service and worship.' SBU is an exciting Regina Youth For Christ program for youth, grades 7-12, gathering at the Buffalo Lounge (2025 Lorne St) every Wednesday evening from 7:00-9:00. Through some great dialogue and collective dreaming, Northview has entered into a partnership with Youth For Christ. SBU is one of the exciting outcomes of this partnership for Northview's teens. A 15-passenger van comes to Northview on Wednesdays, leaving at 6:30 and returning about 9:15. Other rides are also provided.
